After leaving Phi Phi, I headed back to Patong for a few days. You might be thinking: "Rob, why'd you go back to Patong after you talked about how it was dirty and over-commercialized and smelly, etc." And I guess the answer is that: I really liked the guesthouse I had stayed at; I wanted to check out some areas north of Phuket on my way to the full moon party on the east coast, making Phuket the most logical place on the mainland to return to; and I really I just wanted to take a few days to do some laundry, go through some photos, try to catch up a little bit on the blog, etc. And so the hotel in Patong provided a good place to do all that at a good price. And maybe I was too lazy to find somewhere else suitable to stay.
Originally I thought I'd only be in Patong for two nights (24th and 25th) but when I didn't get my laundry to the laundry place until mid afternoon on Wednesday, they said they wouldn't get it back to me until the next afternoon, which wouldn't leave me enough time to head back over to Phuket to get the bus north to Khao Lak or Khao Sok, where I was planning to head next, so I ended up spending Thursday night in Patong as well.
Over the course of the several days I was lucky enough to stumble across quite a few really good restaurants and enjoyed a couple of low-key days. The camera seemed to be functioning properly again - sort of - about 1/3 of the LCD screen on the back wasn't working. So I took it down to the beach one evening for the sunset. The sunsets in Patong were pretty amazing almost every night I was there.
