Day 241 - Wednesday, September 19
Apparently, in traveling from Istanbul to Berlin I managed to skip right over Autumn, because it went from being nice and warm in Istanbul to flippin' freezing in Berlin.
When I got to my hostel, I was immediately drawn to two girls sharing a bottle of bourbon. A couple of hours later around 1am, when it was finally late enough to go out, they seemed to have had plenty and were gracious enough to let me finish off the bottle. This, of course, made them my favorite people ever. Well, maybe not ever. Apparently the appropriate hours for going out in Berlin are like 1am to 6am. I think I'm too old to live in a city where this is the case; maybe the paternalistic laws forcing bars in many places in the US to close at 2am aren't as terrible a thing as I always think they are at 1:45am when I'm getting kicked out of somewhere.
Day 242 - Thursday, September 20
Thursday was cold again, but it was my only day in the city (I had already booked a place in Prague for Fri-Sun). So I went out and explored, starting with an "alternative" tour, that was mainly just going around pointing out "street art" and providing a little bit of info about the artists, along with a few other history lessons. A few pictures:
The tour guide, with one of the cooler pieces:
After the tour, I did a bit more exploring of the more traditional touristy type things:
The Holocaust Memorial was really cool:
As was the East Side Gallery, which is the largest remaining stretch of the wall:
